Sindelfingen, Germany
The Mercedes-Benz plant in Sindelfingen, Germany, was founded in 1915 and employs more than 25,000 people today, making it the largest Mercedes-Benz facility in the world. The German luxury automobile manufacturer has always paid attention to detail, a mindset that applies to the cars they make and to the design of their facilities.
The Sindelfingen location is home to production’s central functions, including production planning, logistics and quality management, corporate research, and vehicle design. It also houses the headquarters for the purchasing organization. For a mid-sized conference room located within these office spaces, facility designers chose 3/16” Fabricoil® curtains for solar shading and a room-wide partition.
To mirror the longevity, beauty, and quality of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, designers selected a variety of high-end materials such as Fabricoil for the interior spaces. The metal mesh adds an elegant touch to the conference room while simultaneously controlling the amount of daylight that enters the space. Because the curtains are constructed of metal, they outlast traditional fabric curtains and are much easier to maintain. Fabricoil also tends to shed dust.
Furthermore, Fabricoil was used as an operable room divider across the back wall. Unlike solid partitions, Fabricoil provides the segmentation designers need for the conference room while preserving and a path for foot traffic when the curtains are open.
