Redmond, Washington
The Microsoft Visitors Center in Redmond, WA, is the company’s own “mini museum” that allows guests to experience the past, present, and future of Microsoft. Visitors can take a self-guided tour, interact with innovative displays and presentations, experience the latest Xbox games, and much more.
A tech giant with an array of industry-leading products and services, Microsoft aims to blend beauty and function in everything they deliver to market. And their buildings, like the Visitors Center, are designed to reflect this very theme.
The design team chose Cascade’s Fabricoil® in a Bright Pearl Grey finish for a hanging backdrop with Microsoft guest computers nearby. The computers are available for users to experience the company’s latest software innovations and interactive capabilities. The 1/8” metal mesh material is connected to Cascade’s Hook attachment system with the majority of the hardware hidden in the drop ceiling channel.
Lights along the perimeter cast down onto the fabric, giving it a more textured appearance. Singular lights within the series can be turned on and off individually. As a result, employees can adjust the brightness, ultimately achieving subtle differences across the face of the Fabricoil panel.
Fabricoil was the ideal material for the Microsoft Visitors Center. It provides a semi-transparent partition for guests on computers, affording them some privacy. At the same time, Fabricoil maintains the openness of the room as well as visibility of the NOAA sphere behind the fabric, which is an important canvas for walk-through presentations
