What is Fabricoil® Coiled Wire Fabric?

Renowned as one of the only truly architectural-grade woven wire mesh materials in the market today, manufacturing Fabricoil® coiled wire fabric material begins with a base metal wire – available in varieties of aluminum, steel, stainless steel, copper-clad steel, or solid brass. The wire metal mesh material and gauge used has a direct impact on weight, performance, and aesthetics, and in turn makes some materials better suited for specific interior or exterior applications. Rest assured that the experienced team at Cascade Architectural is always available to help quickly guide you through the material selection process to identify the optimal material and gauge specifications best-suited for your unique project requirements.

Exhibiting flexible and rigid material characteristics simultaneously, Fabricoil® coiled wire fabric looks and performs like many traditional woven metal wire mesh, but is often far more affordable than most alternatives. This affordability empowers architects and designers to flex their creativity while designing signature architectural interiors and visionary exterior solutions. With Fabricoil, architectural projects with even the most modest budgets can be turned into something special.

Fabricoil coiled wire fabric systems exclusively from Cascade Architectural

With translucency that delivers a simultaneously open and closed feel, Fabricoil® coiled wire fabric fulfills a variety of performance functions including energy efficiency, solar control, space sculpting, partitioning, security, blast and projectile protection, and so much more.

The versatile metal wire mesh fabric is available in unlimited widths and up to 40 feet in length, and separate panels can easily be spliced together at the installation site to seamlessly span extreme distances – a feat that most panelized alternatives cannot achieve. The high-quality, architectural-grade metal wire mesh—available exclusively from Cascade Architectural—is available in a range of extremely durable standard powder coatings, low-VOC lacquer finishes, and custom colors.

Unlike most traditional woven metal wire mesh alternatives, Fabricoil® coiled wire fabric systems are manufactured to specification for every project, giving designers far greater flexibility and freedom to specify custom solutions that meet their specific design intent, function, performance criteria, sustainability requirements, and budget. Leverage our nearly 40 years experience developing custom architectural mesh solutions at Cascade Architectural by connecting with one of our in-house technical product specialists to guide you through the selection of material, gauge, weave, fullness, finish, and engineered attachment system to achieve your vision.

How Metal Wire Coils Are Made

Fabricoil® coiled wire fabric is manufactured by interlocking individual metal wire coils via a simple corkscrew method, weaving the spirals together to create a single flexible metal fabric panel. Our team of highly skilled craftsmen utilizes innovative machinery to form the wire into a spiral of a specified weave size. Panel length is determined by the height of the opening at the installation site, and panel widths are virtually limitless – with the selection of a fullness value to determine how much material will be required to span the opening while achieving the desired look. Panel edges are hand crimped and the finished Fabricoil panel is secured to the attachment system of your choice on-site.

Guardian Grade Fabricoil®

Regardless of material and gauge of material it’s woven from, all Fabricoil® is remarkably strong and durable for virtually any application. However, to ensure required performance in secure applications, Cascade's pre-engineered security gates and screens, as well as our certified blast and projectile protection systems, require the use of our Guardian Grade Fabricoil®, which is manufactured using specific material at a minimum gauge and weave size to ensure a quality installation.

Sustainability Commitment

Cascade Architectural is committed to manufacturing coiled metal wire fabrics for architects and designers that offer significant building performance and environmental benefits.

Fabricoil’s proven energy performance through independent testing shows up to 5.7% energy consumption savings for interior applications and 21.3% for exteriors. It is effective for retrofitting buildings that lack high-performance glazing. Both internal and external applications significantly increase occupant comfort by mitigating sunlight, reducing glare, and controlling interior temperatures.

Fabricoil® is an environmentally responsible material that is Living Building Challenge Red List Free, 100% recyclable, and no toxic chemicals are used in the manufacturing process. It creates a low carbon footprint by using domestically sourced materials that are durable and easy to maintain. Additionally, our wire is sourced from manufacturers who use a high percentage of recycled content, some as high as 90% scrap base.
