The Taghkanic House is one of Cascade’s most interesting residential displays of Fabricoil® coiled wire fabric. Secured with Cascade's pre-engineered Canvas attachment system that borders the fabric panels on four sides, the Taghkanic House “pavilion” is fashioned from steel to create operable exterior sunshade panels able to be manually operated to control sunlight and modulate shading of the pavilion. Cascade’s in-house engineering team worked with architects at Thomas Phifer & Partners to develop the custom solution that met their exact design criteria. The result? A Hudson, NY, retreat unlike any other.
Designed in consideration of the angles of the sun, the naturally ventilated panels not only filter light, but allow the structure to breathe and transform. At dawn and dusk, the shades absorb and reflect the dramatic light of the sky, infusing the entire pavilion with color. At night, illuminated from within, the screens transform the building into a beacon on its site.
