Columbus, Georgia
Located in the heart of historic uptown Columbus, Georgia, RiverCenter for the Performing Arts is the centerpiece of the city's arts and entertainment district. Glance upward inside of Bill Heard Theatre and you’ll witness enormous layers of beautiful, narrow Fabricoil® coiled wire fabric panels decorating the high points of the theater.
"These interwoven ribbons of steel mesh contribute a sense of intimacy, while shaped balcony fascias and custom light fixtures provide color, texture and warmth."
The acoustically-transparent Fabricoil coiled wire fabric system's geometric design brings the theatre to life by beautifully interacting with light without obstructing the acoustic quality within the performance space. The enormous, tensioned architectural metal mesh panels encapsulating the theatre are secured in place using Cascade Architectural's pre-engineered Canvas attachment system hardware—originating from the balcony walls, arching upward in unison with the hall's structural form to cross over one another and terminate at the opposite balcony.
It's a marvelous sight to behold and enhances the elegant ambiance and theatre-going experience for audiences in the 2,000-seat theatre which opened in 2002 and has since hosted world-renowned performers including Yo-Yo Ma, Itzhak Perlman, Jessie Norman, David Copperfield, and more, as well as national touring productions such as the Broadway shows Chicago, Miss Saigon, and Cats.
