Chicago, Illinois
When the top professionals in the interior design industry gather in Chicago to explore the latest products from renowned product designers and emerging manufacturers, exhibit design plays a crucial role in influencing trade show attendees to navigate through a brand's space and discover the beautiful products on display.
In preparation for NeoCon 2013, where Davis Furniture was set to showcase a range of high-end, contemporary products including dining sets, lounge chairs, lobby furniture, benches, couches, and more, they entrusted designers at J. Robert Bazemore to make decisions that would elevate their showroom and set them apart from their competitors.
To showcase unique furniture sets in the best context, the design team sought a partitioning material that could create distinct spaces within the large showroom without entirely obstructing visibility from one area to the next, so that visitors would be encouraged to explore the entirety of the space. The completely customizable semi-transparent Fabricoil® coiled wire fabric systems from Cascade Architectural proved to be the perfect fit for this function—replacing the outdated perforated metal panels used in previous years—allowing for the creation of individual spaces within the showroom without compromising sight lines.
Specifying over 7,000 square feet of architectural metal mesh, the designers successfully added semi-transparent boundaries to separate various displays throughout the showroom floor while adding an elegant touch to the exhibition and seamlessly integrating with Davis Furniture's timelessly modern style. The chosen material specification for the architectural metal mesh partitioning system was 3/16" aluminum Fabricoil panels in a Bright Pearl Grey finish suspended from the ceiling and mounted using Cascade's pre-engineered Sleeve attachment system.
The show proved to be a resounding success for Davis Furniture, as they were awarded the Gold prize in the "Conference Room Furniture" category for their collection of benches and tables that "dared to push the limits of design and engineering," according to the company.
Furthermore, the durability and longevity of the metal mesh space dividers were evident as the innovative semi-transparent coiled wire fabric system from Cascade continued to be the primary element in shaping the showroom's layout year after year until 2019 when a more open-floor concept was chosen for the showroom.
