Detroit, Michigan
Ascension St. John Hospital is a full-service hospital serving the Detroit area with 24/7 emergency care and a Level 1 Trauma Center. The facility is dedicated to world-class healthcare, and their commitment to quality is evident in the staff, patient care, and physical environment.
For multiple interior applications, architects at HOK and Harley Ellis Devereaux specified curved Fabricoil® metal wire mesh systems by Cascade Architectural.
To visually maintain an open environment, 1/4" aluminum Fabricoil was the ideal solution. Finished in Satin Bronze, the coiled metal wire mesh systems provide dimension to the open lobby on the ground floor and help guests identify the location of the front desk.
An additional coiled metal wire mesh panel hangs from the second floor of the atrium. From the ground-floor point of view, this panel serves as a decorative ceiling component. From a direct view on the second floor, its functional purpose is more evident. The curved panel is suspended directly behind The W. Warren Shelden Heart and Circulatory Center help desk, helping to create a visual boundary for the space.
In addition to maintaining the elegant design of the hospital’s interior, the coiled metal wire mesh assists in wayfinding for guests to locate the front desks. Finally, Fabricoil adds a decorative component to the circular atrium while maintaining its openness, and the flexibility of metal mesh was ideal for creating custom, curved systems.
